Steven Wright

Steven Wright has been a Director, CEO and Advisor to many of Australia’s most famous brands and events particularly in the leisure, hospitality, sport, retail and tourism industries. He regularly advises SME, government, franchisors and family businesses.

In addition to South East Leisure, Steven currently sits on three other boards; The Victorian Tourism Industry Council, the Delaware North Asia Pacific Advisory Board and was recently appointed as a Director of East Gippsland Region Water Corporation.

His key skill is transforming and growing brands and businesses by developing clear business strategies supported by high performing teams and a strong culture. All strategies and business plans have clear measurable performance outcomes. This often requires developing a new culture and solving major legacy issues.

Steven has the unique background of not only having extensive strategy development, sales, marketing and digital transformation experience through advising and managing some of Australia’s highest profile brands, but he is also a trained commercial lawyer and accountant.

This gives him a very deep understanding of the risks, governance, opportunities and issues faced across the wider company. He is not just limited to one particular field of knowledge and adds great value to a business for that reason.

Laura Buckley

Director

Laura works for Commonwealth Bank as an Executive Manager, Non-Financial Risk Governance and has previously held senior leadership roles in human resources, safety, governance and occupational rehabilitation across the banking & finance, transport and logistics sectors. Laura has also held teaching and research fellowship positions at University of Melbourne and University of Wollongong, specialising in Biomechanics and human performance.

Laura has a Juris Doctor from RMIT, a Bachelor Science in Biomechanics (Hons) from University of Wollongong and a Graduate Diploma in Safety Science from UNSW. Laura is a qualified Safety, Quality and Business Management Systems Auditor.

Laura is a Deputy Commissioner to the Commonwealth Safety Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission, Vice President of the Safety Rehabilitation and Compensation Licensees Association and volunteers at the Peninsula Community Legal Centre.

Laura is passionate about community health, wellbeing and social outcomes. She is also a keen runner, mountain biker and road cyclist and swimmer.

Mick Jaensch

Director

Mick is a highly experienced executive having recently completed a long career spanning 37 years in local government with the final 27 of them as Director Corporate Services across Campaspe, Surf-Coast, Knox and Greater Dandenong Councils. With a Finance background and a qualified CPA, Mick has been regarded as an industry leader in strategic financial planning within local government. In addition to this qualification, Mick further holds an MBA and has completed the Australian Institute of Company Directors course.

Since commencing his consulting business, Mick has been appointed to the Audit and Risk Committees of Bayside City Council and the Shire of West Wimmera and has recently worked with both Kingston City Council and Boroondara City Council. Mick is also a voluntary Director of Community Kinders Plus, a company that manages over 20 kindergartens in Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula on behalf of those Councils.

Whilst the company limited by guarantee model in local government is still relatively new, Mick has significant experience in this space having been part of the establishment of Dandenong Market Pty Ltd in 2012 and sitting on this company Board for the following nine years as a Shareholder representative. This involved the establishment of the legal framework, appointment of the Board and the eventual decision to move the Market from a contract management arrangement to an in-house managed facility with company staff.

Mick has a keen interest in the leisure industry having completed three Ironman events and is an avid swimmer in both pools and open water.

Dr Malak Sukkar

Director

Malak is a senior healthcare executive with over 25 years of national and international leadership experience in strategic, operational and commercial management, business development, project management, marketing and communication in the public and private, for-profit and not-for-profit health sectors.

Malak is currently the CEO and Managing Director of MediHealth Partners Pty Ltd consulting business. She previously held positions as Chief Strategy, Business and Development at Northern Health, Executive Director of Business Development and Infrastructure at St Vincent’s Health Australia and Private Hospital CEO with Healthe Care Australia.

With her clinical background and business acumen, Malak brought major and lasting development and partnership opportunities across many industries to drive better health outcomes including: primary care, diagnostic and interventional specialties, hospitals, universities and translational research.

Malak is also the Chair of CrimCheck Board of Directors, Vice Chair of South East Volunteers Board, Chair of the National ACU Peter Faber Business School Advisory Council, Chair of the Master of Health Administration Advisory Committee at La Trobe University and a founding member and former Board Secretary of the Australian Lebanese Medical Association.

Malak holds a Doctorate in Business Administration from RMIT and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors

Tim Cockayne

Director

Tim has 30 years of retail and marketing experience working across various sectors within specialty and big box retail and is currently the Executive General manager – Bapcor retail for Bapcor, which is a public company.

Tim has worked for a number of national retail businesses with his most recent previous role as CEO of the Total Tools franchise business where he undertook a massive growth program. Tim holds an MBA and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
