The South East Leisure Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Fiona Preston as our new Chief Executive Officer.
Fiona joins South East Leisure (SEL) following five years in executive leadership with the State Sport Centres Trust. As General Manager Venues, she successfully led operations across four major state‑owned sport and recreation venues, supported a workforce of over 350 team members, and oversaw an annual operating budget exceeding $20 million. Her operational expertise, state‑level sector experience, and passion for community wellbeing will play a key role in positioning SEL for future success.
A people‑centred leader, Fiona is committed to building strong teams, delivering exceptional customer experiences, and supporting local communities to live active, healthy, and connected lives.
Sharing her excitement about the journey ahead, Fiona said, “I’m thrilled to be joining South East Leisure at such an important time and look forward to using my experience and skill set to make a positive and lasting impact for SEL and the community.”
Her appointment comes at a pivotal time for SEL as we prepare for the opening of the Dandenong Wellbeing Centre and continue to strengthen the future of our community’s leisure and wellbeing services.
We extend my sincere thanks to Libby Mears for her outstanding leadership and steady guidance throughout her time as Interim CEO, and to Mel Ihalamulla for her valuable contribution during her Acting CEO period. We also acknowledge the broader Executive and SEL team for your hard work, professionalism, and unwavering dedication during this period of transition.
Fiona joins SEL in April, and we’re excited to begin the next chapter under her leadership.
